About Help Dat Foundation:
Help Dat Foundation is a charitable organization created to support local families facing unexpected medical expenses. Through community fundraising, acts of service, events, sponsorships, and neighborly compassion, the foundation helps ease financial burdens and bring hope during life’s toughest moments.
The foundation is rooted in friendship, faith, love for the community, and the belief that people can make a meaningful difference when they show up together.
Our Mission
Our mission is to support local families facing unexpected medical expenses by raising funds, mobilizing community support, and serving others with compassion, friendship, and faith.
We show up, stand strong, and serve one family at a time.
Our Story
Help Dat Foundation was founded by David Ratliff in 2019, but the heart behind the foundation started long before that.
For more than 20 years, members of the Help Dat Foundation community have cooked together, and sometimes separately, to raise money for people in need. What began as a shared love of cooking and serving others grew into something more formal: a foundation built to help local families during difficult seasons.
Help Dat Foundation was created to harness that love and skill of cooking for large groups of people and turn it into meaningful support for families facing unexpected medical expenses.
The foundation was inspired by seeing people in the community go through challenging times and wanting to do something to help. Instead of standing by, the group chose to show up.
The Meaning Behind the Name
The name Help Dat Foundation comes from a love of the New Orleans Saints and the Who Dat Nation. It is a play on that familiar phrase, but with a mission-centered meaning: to help people in need.
Help Dat Foundation carries the spirit of Louisiana community, cooking, friendship, and generosity into every fundraiser and every family it supports.
How Hogs for the Cause Became Part of the Foundation
Hogs for the Cause was a natural fit for Help Dat Foundation because of the group’s love of cooking and its desire to raise money for families in need.
The foundation had been cooking for other organizations for years, but wanted to make that work more formal. Hogs for the Cause gave the team another way to use food, fundraising, and community support to make a real difference.
Why the Piggy Classic Golf Tournament Started
The Piggy Classic Golf Tournament was created because the group already had experience helping run golf tournaments for other foundations, schools, and organizations.
They saw an opportunity to use that experience to raise money for local families in need. Today, the Piggy Classic is one of Help Dat Foundation’s signature fundraising events, bringing golfers, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and community members together for a greater purpose.
One Family at a Time
For Help Dat Foundation, “one family at a time” means focusing on a specific family so the foundation can make a more personal impact.
Instead of feeling broad or distant, the mission stays personal. The foundation raises money with a real family, a real story, and a real need in mind.
Why We Serve
When a family is facing an unexpected medical situation, the financial pressure can become overwhelming. Medical costs are only one part of the burden. Families may also be managing missed work, travel, meals, gas, lodging, childcare, and everyday bills.
Help Dat Foundation was created to help ease some of that weight. Through fundraising, service, faith, friendship, and community support, the foundation stands strong for local families during some of their hardest moments.
